FUT (Follicular Unit Hair Transplant)
FUT, also known as the Strip Method is an ideal option for patients requiring the maximum number of grafts from a transplant. This procedure involves removing a strip of tissue from the donor area of the scalp, which is located on the back of the head. Technicians use high-powered microscopes to divide the strip into grafts of follicular units which consist of 1 to 4 hairs.
Some benefits of an FUT procedure is:
- Maximum number (varies by patient)
- FUT surgery is generally quicker than FUE surgery
- Lowest chance for transection
- More affordable than other procedures
- Longer hair will cover the linear scar
The FUT procedure does involve sutures in the donor area. Unlike the FUE technique, the FUT procedure leaves a linear scar on the scalp. FUT is often times preferred for patients with longer hair who do not want a drastic change in their appearance. Only the hair at the donor site, where your hair is removed from, will be trimmed.
